Every evening I write down ten things that defined my day. I try to capture the good and the bad, things that I am grateful for, things that I am looking forward to, and what I do that day just for me, I really just write the little details that made that day different from others. I enjoy it and it works for me. Here’s some things pulled from various days over the past week:

  1. My Father in Law is out of ICU but remains in the hospital. This has been very trying for my husband and I’m not sure how to help. On a brighter note, my Dad was released from hospital last week and is resting
  2. I was on the bus and a construction/road work van hit the bus windshield with something and cracked it. More annoying than scary, but I’m glad I was at the back of the bus
  3. Had problems with Amazon- now that they’ve helped shut down brick and mortar and made themselves one of the only games in town, their service has slipped dramatically
  4. When I was walking the dog I saw this little boy who was just saying Hi to everyone. It was a definite mood boost
  5. One of my friends is thinking about doing something that I feel is stupid (not dangerous stupid, just not a great idea and it will come back to haunt her) I pretty much told her that it was a stupid idea which was overstepping bounds but at that moment I didn’t care.
  6. I always read on the train- I was reading the other day and was so intrigued by book that I missed my stop. On the way home, I almost missed my stop- TWICE. Thanks Curtis Sittenfield
  7. My daughter won an award this week! Thrilled for her!
  8. We went out to what I can only refer to as a “joint”- this place that specializes in southern type food- food was SO GOOD. When we were paying we told the waitress that we would love to take the chef home- the chef came out and introduced himself to us and he said he clearly would come work for us. He was such a nice guy and an amazing cook. The food was the ultimate in comfort food- mainly because you could feel the love in his food.
  9. I took a rest afternoon this week where I watched a few episodes of Indian Matchmaker and read the new Emily Henry. I needed a few hours of nothing
  10. The paintings at the Met, the flowers at the garden, a decent crop of movies and my writing group continue to be the things I look forward to every week

In the end, it is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves. Ann Landers

  2. I have also been so engrossed in a book on the bus that I’ve missed my stop. Once I missed a few stops and hubby had to come in the car and pick me up! Love the Ann Landers quote.

  3. That is a great quote by Ann Landers. I remember my first year down South “The home of the Thrown Rolls.” I learned to enjoy grits and shrimp and comfort food Southern style. I need to look up the author, Curtis Sittenfield.

    1. In the spirit of #4, when we were traveling, we once came across a man and a woman, standing in a busy spot in the city, with a sign “free hugs”! When someone approached either one of them, they would hug them with a smile. No one left the hug without a huge, happy grin plastered on their faces. Loved it!

Congratulations on your daughter’s award! What was it? For her presentation? Her findings?

      1. This one was for community service and it came with a nifty cash award, so good deeds can work out for you. The thesis award isn’t announced till next week I think my daughter said. She said that some of the work is just outstanding

  4. My favorite part of this list is that you made time for yourself as well as the restaurant experience. I love how you told the chef and he came out to talk to you.

Congratulations to both your daughter and yourself. 😘❤️

  5. My sister in law used to own a restuarant and she always said that she had a good business is because the food was made with love. Love can definately be felt in food.

  6. Family health issues can be really hard. I’m glad you took some time out of your regular activities to relax. I’m in love with the little boy who said “Hi” to everyone. Why do we stop doing that when we grow up and when does it stop being so cute? I guess we erect a lot of boundaries as we “mature.” I remember moving to a new city as a young bride from the South, saying “Hi” to people in the grocery store, and getting dirty looks in return as if I had accosted them.😞

    1. It’s funny when I hear about people in other places saying hi or smiling at strangers. That’s so not what we do here in the city and it’s hard to imagine a place that does it…

  8. I’m glad to hear y our father and father in law are doing better! And I’m not surprised that Amazon is slipping…once they eliminate the competition, why would they bother to be efficient? And I bet shipping costs are going to skyrocket too!

    1. I heard that UPS is going to start charging a fee for returns. And we’ve put ourselves in the position that we rely on them

  9. Thoughts and prayers for your father-in-law. And good news on both your dad being home and daughter receiving an award! As for your friend, when something is said out of concern, I don’t see it being over the line. Its being a GOOD friend!

  10. I hate to judge your list, and usually, I do not, but this is a well-rounded one. Sorry to hear about both of your parents; it sounds stressful. Happy to hear about your daughter and her award; I’m sure it’s well deserved, based on what you’ve told us about her throughout the years.
