Every evening I write down ten things that defined my day. I try to capture the good and the bad, things that I am grateful for, things that I am looking forward to, and what I do that day just for me, I really just write the little details that made that day different from others. I enjoy it and it works for me. Here’s some things pulled from various days over the past week:

  1. Betty had her vet check-up and everything is aok. Though she knows when we are going to the vet, as opposed to taking a walk. When I got her harness out she ran and hid. She didn’t want to walk down the block where the vet is. Amazing for a dog who only goes to the vet once a year…
  2. I forgot to bring my journal with me when I went to DC. I don’t like writing my ten things in an email and mailing them to myself
  3. Felt every one of the 29,000 steps I walked
  4. Every time I go to DC I end up getting bit by a bug. And every time I go to DC I need to buy Benadryl
  5. Finally met the parents of one of my daughters roommates. Such nice people! And they play pickleball. Wish they lived closer.
  6. Pop culture room at American History museum is clearly one of my favorite museum rooms
  7. You People is an interesting movie that I think everyone should see
  8. Great thought provoking blog conversations this week
  9. My toes on my left foot hurt- but I don’t know why and I’m going to obsess about it
  10. The Ted Lasso trailer made me weepy

There are no shortcuts to any place worth going. Beverly Sills

  1. I bet your feet are swollen from walking and your toes are bumping up against your shoes . It is amazing how smart some dogs are. My dog knows when it’s the weekend. She remembers that we used to go hiking on weekends and she tries to get in my van on Saturday even though I haven’t gone in a long time.

    1. It was just the outer three toes on my left foot. I have a weird pinky toe…I was born with it crossed over the toe next to it. It’s never bothered me before, but with age it’s pushing the other two toes together. I just ordered toe separators and hoping they help when I’m walking a lot. And I need to put my foot in a water bath to reduce the swelling if I’ve walked a lot. It’s funny cause my other foot is bigger so you’d think that would give me more problems. And dogs!! The groomer is across the street from the park I take her. I swear she knows when it’s not to walk around the park!!

  2. Next trip to DC–Benadryl and journal and foot relief. It could be the shoes or the crossover or a combination of the two. I have an issue with one of my toes too and have tried a number of different fixes. Most of them worked for a while until they didn’t. People who enjoy walking need toes that don’t hurt!

  3. The animals always know….

I hope your feet feel better soon. I’m also having a bit of pain in one of my feet, so I wore sneakers to work instead of my boots. Now, ever time I get the tiniest bit of moisture on my shoes, they squeak like crazy. It’s driving me a bit nuts.

  4. So your legs are tired, you are loaded up on Benadryl and you had to email yourself. You were very busy and a little rattled but still managed to write an interesting column. You put it all together.

  5. #1: My dog used to become a ball of shaking fur when we were within 10 feet of the vet.
#7: I LOVED You People, but it’s getting heavily dragged in the socials, and I think it’s because people don’t understand sarcasm/satire anymore.

    1. I’m urging everyone I know to see You People because it’s the most thought provoking movie I’ve see. In a long time. To be fair…I actually know people like Julia Louis Dreyffuss character…

  6. Love that Beverly Sills quote. Your 29,000 steps reminds me of a friend who went hiking and like you was close to 30,000. She spent an hour walking the steps of her condo until she had 30k because she figured she never would be that close to that number again. I think feeling those steps was well-earned!
