What I found fascinating was that this was around the time when middle classes were able to have books in personal libraries and they started to make more things that were interesting to women. Do you think the Met would come to my apartment and create one of those wonderful rooms for me? Probably wishful thinking huh! That blue/gold diamond upholstery is astounding and maybe a bit overdone? I’d also like some pumpkin pancakes for breakfast!
I find the Nineteenth-Century art, society and culture fascinating. And isn’t just wonderful to explore these museums. Thank you LA for another wonderful installment art-inspired wanderings. 🙂
Great pictures! The rooms are so beautiful. I used to love the Met when I lived up there but rarely got there. The foods look good too.
With the bread…I’ve taken to baking it myself. Doesn’t it make the house smell great!? Just a suggestion, try using buttermilk for the mix with brown sugar instead of white. It takes longer, a lot longer to rise, but it comes delicious.
Oh, an give my best to your husband. 🤭🤭
So many good things here! I especially love that book case/display at the met galleries–and the story behind the circulation of books and creating things that are interesting to women.
Your bread looks amazing. I have two bread recipes. One from my mom for our regular white bread, the other a Finnish braid with cardamom from my grandmother. I have made either in years.
This is a simple bread…flour, water, yeast and salt. I bake it in a ceramic bread bowl. The theory is the steam of the closed bowl helps. This is my third loaf and it gets better every time
Note to self, winning ideas, baking bread. I haven’t done that for decades. And then I could eat it in my private library with a fireplace…next life! Missed you LA, C

I had a print of Ships in a Quiet Weather hanging in my office for a number of years. I loved it as it had a calming effect.

Is that you in the mirror in the blue and gold room? I want that library room in my house, especially if that’s a fireplace I see. Happy Sunday!

The rooms in the Met gallery are stunning! Who would have thought you could get such lovely pictures at the Botanic Gardens in February?

I only ever had arancini once, and that was a long, long time ago in Portland. Gotta figure out where to find them here, I guess.
