In the evenings, I write down ten random things from my day. They can be happy or sad, trivial or important, gratitude or anger. I find it helps me to remember the little things that matter, and get out the bad energy of the negative things. Here’s a sample from this week:
- Writing exercise of distant POV was really difficult
- thrilled by friend K can do me a favor!
- My father in law really is clueless about certain things
- Bruce Springsteen recorded Greetings From Asbury Park fifty years ago. Wow did that make me stop and feel a little bit old
- Grateful we got seats when we went to see Bruce cover band
- Molly’s makes the best cupcakes in NYC
- I really prefer seeing movies in theaters
- My husband annoyed me over stupid things
- A little surprised that classes and other in person events are getting sold out- didn’t know if we would see that again
- Not looking forward to cold snap about to hit us
Don’t Bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself. William Faulkner
I went out with friends Fridy night to a local brewery/pizza place. It was packed and we struggled to find parking and a table. I am pleasantly surprised that so many people are out and about again.

Yes! I’m surprised that there are people everywhere doing things. Even getting dinners reservations has become more difficult

That’s a brilliant idea. I always schedule time in the evening to do the same, but, then forget!

I think it is such a good idea. I will schedule it again but under the initials LA (as inspiration lol)

Takes me back to the days of cassette tapes (or was it an 8 track)? I remember driving around on a Saturday night, listening to Bruce Springsteen, feeling on top of the world. Regarding cold snaps. I think the one we had is heading your way. Our forecast next week, looks pretty darn good again.Thinking of you LA as you navigate those emotions, dealing with your in-laws/outlaws, etc.

Please don’t try to send the weather back to the west coast. First time in months that I walked without a hat/coat/gloves here. I hope it comes your way soon.

I can totally relate to the Bruce Springsteen piece. Queen is my favourite band. Later this year—on my birthday actually—it will be and 50 years since they released their first album. How is that even possible?

Love that you do this, LA. I do something similar — ‘thorns and roses’ to recap the day – but I like your method. There’s less classifying, more free flow. And…sorry about the cold snap. It’s been below zero here in the Midwest….but thank goodness the sun has finally reappeared. Stay warm! 💓

When my children were young and then their children, we used to start dinner each night with the question what three good things happened to you today. It was very important to me that they remember the good things and let the other things go. There was no question of what bad things happened. Of course, if it was enough to bother them they would discuss the bad things with us. I like your idea. From the comments here, it looks as if you have started a new movement.

I try to schedule but being busy with nonsensical things usually distracts me.
I try to write weekly, but there is only so much wine I can drink and that is what I mostly write about.
Springsteen? Loved his early stuff. Later recordings, I guess since The Rising, not so great. Maybe his age is showing. But like so many others in his field he should stick to music and leave politics to the more professional incompetents we have now.
So, your husband does stupid things? Probably because he is thinking about how much he loves you so he gets distracted (we husbands have to stick together)

We belong to the fellowship of the husband. An ancient order trained to concede defeat gracefully only after a respectable amount of disagreement.

It was recently 50 years since the release of Carly Simon’s ” You’re So Vain”. WOW. That stopped me in my tracks. Interestingly I was at a musical performance at a pub recently catering to all ages. I think more people know the words to this song than the national anthem.

Well….you so vain is a sort of anthem

What is it about FIL’s that make them clueless? LOL!!

Glad about things being sold out again. I had wondered too.
We are in the cold snap now. Its bitter, but next week we are supposed to see the 50’s! Can’t complain about that. But I told my husband that something big is coming for its been too mild overall this winter. Goes from bitter cold to 50-60 degree weather, which we typically do not see this time of year!

I try to remember to write in my diary each evening, which is sort of a rendering of my day. I like your intentional list, though. It’s good that life seems about normal these days. What a crazy few years there!

Good luck with the cold snap! Wear a hat, gloves, scarf, and mask with your coat, or just stay at home!

He’s my all-time fave, though. And in many ways I prefer “Greetings From Asbury Park” to some of his more commercial successes.
