While I definitely read some amazing books this year, I also read some clunkers…
My worst books of the year are:
- The Roughest Draft– it goes on about ten chapters too long
- A Shoe Story by Jane Rosen- Trite is too distinguished a word
- The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith – it sank
- Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez- awful
- Marrying the Ketchups by Jennifer Close- ugh
- Big Friendship by Aminatour Sow & Ann Friedman- wouldn’t want to be friends with either (non fiction)
- Group Therapy by BB Easton- mockery of therapy
- In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer- don’t think the author has ever been to NYC
- The Ladies Midnight Swim Club by Faith Hogan- so light and boring
- If Only by Judith Arnold- if only I hadn’t thought this looked like an interesting book
Books I was looking forward to but I was sad to have read:
- Friends, Lovers and the Big, Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
- Martha Stewart’s Very Good Things:
- Did I Say That Out Loud by Kristin van Ogtrop
- The Home Edit Life by Clea Shearer
- The Last Thing he Told Me by Laura Dave
Sequels that missed the mark:
- Yours Cheerfully by AJ Pearce
- The Locked Room by Elly Griffiths
- Finley Donovan Knocks em Dead by Elle Cosimano

😉I like light rom coms…but a light rom com doesn’t need to be a bad book…

I’m curious: If you’re in the midst of a bad book, do you ever cut your losses and quit reading it?

I really try to finish all the books I start….however…I just skimmed the last 75 pages of possibly the worst book I’ve ever read…I was hoping for something redeeming

I rarely quit a book either, but I have a couple of times.

Sometimes you just can’t get through them

Some really interesting critiques. But I guess it all goes to show how tough it is to pick a winner.

It really is. I went into each of these reads with expectations that they would hold o to the promise of the blurb

I’m curious to know about the books you were looking forward to but were sad to have read. Sad for what reason?

Sad because I had high expectations and they disappointed me

Oh…I don’t think Elly Griffiths EVER misses the mark! I haven’t read one that I didn’t like.

This was my first miss for her. I love her books…but this one seemed phoned in to me

Don’t give up on them; hopefully you’ll like the next one more! Have you tried her DI Harbinder Kaur series? I really like those, too!
