High Bonneville and Steve Martin both had books out this week, and I had the pleasure of attending their events. Both men are charming, witty and funny, and both had very entertaining shows. We were not allowed to take pictures at the Steve Martin event, but it was Steve, Harry Bliss (his illustrator) and Nathan Lane moderated- which alone was worth the price of admission. Metropolitan- Galleries 615,616,617,618,619- European Painting. Manuel Osorio Manrique de Zuniga (Red Boy) by Goya is one of my favorite paintings at the Met.Metropolitan- The Power of Portraiture: Selections from the Department of Drawings and Prints- Small but interesting collection of photos.Apple Strudel- Cafe Sabarsky- this is a Viennese Cafe inside the Neue Gallery- the desserts are ridiculous. Eisenberg’s was one of our favorite little neighborhood joints, and unfortunately they were a pandemic casualty. Lucky for us, they were recently bought out, and now go as S&P (which was the name of the joint before it was Eisenberg’s) This is old school luncheonette, and the sandwiches. The one on the bottom is tuna, but the top one is the Mel Brooks. Fresh turkey, one slice of corned beef, cole slaw and Russian dressing. It was one of the best sandwiches ever! Just perfect!!!
The usher was so nice I couldn’t do it. It was torrential rain on Tuesday so I left extra commuting time. Of course all worked perfectly so I git their just after doors opened. The books hadn’t arrived yet, but when they came the usher brought me one so I didn’t need to go downstairs
Steve Martin I think is a true genius who built his career masterfully! The other pictures are good to see too. You also mentioned Nathan Lane. I think he is just so talented. I saw him years ago on broadway in The Producers and again in the movie. Just only great!
Wow! What a week you had. I absolutely love Hugh Bonneville and have enjoyed his acting accomplishments for years. He’s a class act. And Steve Martin? A diverse, talented, brilliant entertainer. He is one in a million. Plus, Nathan Lane is without a doubt the icing on top of the cake. I’d say you couldn’t top that but Goya too? OMG, seriously one of my favorites! What fabulous experiences you had. I can’t even imagine a week filled to the brink with that kind of genius. You are one lucky lady! Thank you for sharing!
What a fun week and how nice to hear that both actors were charming and entertaining. These days you hear of other celebrities who are so full of themselves that they insult their audiences. I love hearing something positive about these gentlemen.
I love Steve Martin so much, I probably would have tried to sneak a pic. And probably would have been thrown out on my ass.
