This is a supersize issue, as I visited my daughter in DC over the weekend! Lots of pictures!! Lots of fun!
Smithsonian National Museum of Art- Washington DC- The Highlight for me was the Peacock Room. Just beautiful!Smithsonian National Museum of African Art- Really beautiful artwork and exhibitsNational Gallery- Sargent and Spain. While I like Sargent as an artist, I thought this exhibit was underwhelmingVermeer’s Secrets- National Gallery- I thought this was incredibly interesting. The Gallery knew that they were in possession of two forged Vermeer’s, but when they were working on things, they realized one of the works in their collection, was not painted by Vermeer, but by someone is his studio. Really cool how they figured this all out. National Zoo- All the animals are soooo cute!Tudor Place- Washington DC- I love touring historic homes! Just loved exploring this !Beignets- Bayou Bakery Arlington VABread Pudding- Circa- DCApple French Toast- Le Diplomate- DCVolcano Sundae- Mi Vida- DCCroque Madame- 1310 Kitchen- DCMy daughter and I had some tasty foodWalking around DCDavid Sedaris was awesome. Holiday was ehhh…my daughter and I fell asleep in the first act. A diet coke at intermission got us through the rest of the show.Herb Garden- Brooklyn Botanic GardenMetropolitan Museum- Gallery 548- This is one of my favorite spots at the Met- it never fails to evoke moods and thoughts and whatever. Luckily, they have placed some folding chairs in here so I can happily contemplate all I want. Technically, there is a cafe at the end, but it’s not always open. Cubism and the Trompe l’Oeil Tradition- special exhibit Metropolitan- I thought this was a very well curated exhibit- while I’m not a huge fan of cubism, this exhibit highlighted things that I has never considered.
Sleep? What is this concept you speak of? To be fair, we both fell asleep a bit in the first act of holiday which was Saturday night, but I think that was boredom. Worst for me, I took a 7am train, which means I was up at 5am Friday …didn’t get to hotel till 11…
Wowza! What a jam packed experience! So many things to absorb! Absolutely gorgeous pictures! You took in so many wonderful sights. Such Wonderful artwork and so much more! Plus, you spent time with your daughter? I doubt it gets much better than that! It must have been a fabulous visit for you both!
What a wonderful trip! Isn’t it great that you can photograph the lovelies and look back on them when you get home and put up your feet! So many good memories!
DC brings back a lot of wonderful memories for me. When my wife and I were young and didn’t have a ton of money, we spent our weekends checking out the various Smithsonian museums. I’m by no means an art history fanatic, but the National Art Gallery became one of my favorite places to visit. Loved that it was a cheap day out. Loved the National Zoo too. I always found it to be a calm oasis in the middle of the city. Looks like you a had great time! Thanks for sharing.
Love the Tudor photos. I once took some courses for interior decor. One of the courses was the history of furniture. We went to a museum, and I was so fascinated by the way we used to live. One of the beds was so MASSIVE and so dark. You really needed a gigantic house to fit these pieces.
I’ve yet to read anything by David Sedaris but, and get ready here for more coincidences, I caught most of the piece that featured him last night on 60 Minutes AND I may go see him in performance here in little old Kalamazoo with MY DAUGHTER.

Wow x2 🙂 I recently read about the Vermeer forgery and it’s a fascinating story … Is life truly stranger than fiction? 🙂

Yes, the key is to keep moving. When you sit that’s the end and boring doesn’t help

I would visit D.C. just for the National Zoo, and the National Zoo just for the panda. So cool!
