I got really out of shape the past two years.
The gym was closed for a bit, and then they opened with restrictions, and I didn’t feel the need to rejoin. I figured I could take care of my fitness by myself.
Big Mistake.
I might get on my at home exercise bike, but I was definitely not pushing myself. I let myself get out of shape. The first body conditioning class I took at the gym a few weeks ago? I’m lucky that I could walk my legs hurt so much…
I am grateful that I rejoined the gym. I am grateful that after this weeks body conditioning class I can actually sit without it hurting…
I am grateful that I am on my way back to being in better shape.
If you need a prompt for mindfulness or journaling:

listen deeply to yourself

The world is before you. And you need not take it or leave it as it was when you came in. James Baldwin

I do much better at the gym than when I try to do things on my own at home. After the last few weeks of sickness, I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to the gym (in the pool) on Monday.
I’m cheering you on! 📣

I’m not disciplined enough at home

You do the best with what you have available. Your routine maybe didn’t seem to be enough, but at the same time you didn’t simply sit on your butt. Plus you walk everywhere. That’s a positive even if you aren’t targeting specific muscles.

True. But I needed to do more with my muscles

I am definitely out of shape but have never belonged to any gym or health club. My exercise is walking, that’s it. But getting the will to do so is my big challenge at the moment.

Just put your sneakers on and go

We had more winter this past week, high winds and snow, not conducive to walking but forecast is for more temperate weather this week. I am looking forward to getting out and about. 🙂

Good for you!!! (I would encourage you with, “no pain, no gain,” but then you’d probably want to kick me–and I would deserve it.😂)

It’s like a mirror. I total get this. I signed back up for the gym about two months ago, and let us say, I’ve not habituated yet. I’ve got 15 pounds that need to come off. You’re inspiring me!

Leave your gym clothes out…that’s what I do…I wake up and put them on. I write them I go to the gym. Just attach going to the gym to something else you do

Yep, great thinking. I’ve attached it to the morning routine. 👍 25 minutes on the bike today. It’s a start.

Gotta love Dr. Seuss’s quote!
Good for you in getting back into exercising. I am ready for the warmer weather so I can get back to walking more, but more exercise than that would be good for me!

What is this “eggzorcise” of which you speak? And can it be done while eating a burrito? (I measure all things against their burrito eating compatibility)

That’s the beauty of the self contained meal. Can be eaten on a treadmill

I regret quitting the gym to an extent. But after my wife quit after we rejoined when restrictions were lifted after about 2 weeks, I was bummed to no longer have a work out buddy and kept losing over $50 a month. So I quit and it gas challenging to get motivated.

Wise words…..both James Baldwin and Dr. Seuss were favorite writers of mine!

It may sound silly, but putting a tv in front of the home exercise-bike (we have different machines, but still…) made a HUGE difference for us. And it saved us the hundreds of dollars per visit that we were paying to the gym well before the pandemic struck (due to the frequency of our visits, not the fancy-ness of the gym 🙂 ).

The worst part is, I put the bike in front of the tv, and I would get on it five times a week. But I wasn’t pushing myself…and I wasn’t doing anything with weights or abs

I’ve tried working out at home all winter, but it’s just too difficult for me. I enjoy spending time in nature and walking, so I’m hoping the warmer weather will inspire me to get out and exercise more.

I just don’t push myself! Though I went to a 730 body conditioning class this morning and my shoulders are not so happy with me

I tried Chloe Ting for a little bit along with my morning walks. I was sure I was in good shape from walking so much, but that first barre class taught me a lesson!

Barre is so hard!! My first body con class in two years…my hair hurt…😆

Thanks for the laugh, but that hurt too. Today was extra hard. The instructor kept going without breaks.

Omg…the class I took yesterday focused on upper body…you’re lucky I’m typing….😆

My barre class was hips. I can barely stand today.

I’ve never been able to stick with a gym. Fortunately, I’m pretty good at getting myself up and moving around.
