I posed this question to my BFF’s a few week ago, and as you are all my friends, and this is an important question, I figured I would reach out to all of you as well:
Ready?
How many pillows to you keep on your bed?
If you have more than just sleeping pillows on the bed, where do you put the excess pillows when you go to sleep at night?
I mean, the Property Brothers never show what the sanctuary looks like at night before you actually go to sleep… You just see a beautifully made bed with a plethora of pillows…Is there a special place to put the fifteen or so additional pillows that our beds seem to require?
Discuss:
I have 4 on the bed we sleep with and 2 shams we set neatly on a chair at night. In my guest rooms I have 4 for sleeping, 2 shams and 3 decorative and when the kids come home they toss them on the floor!! 🙄

That’s my thing…if I put them on the chair then I can’t sit in chair…I hate putting them on the floor, plus the throw I keep on the end of the bed. I got rid of two so I’m down to five…3 for sleeping. I feel so much lighter

I may have to do that. I am very slowly slimming down everything in my house! Preparing to move when we retire in 4-5 years. I figured if I started now I might be where I want to be by then! I’m not real sentimental in keeping most stuff I just hate to get rid of things i spent money on and worked hard for! Lol. Seriously though, I enjoy your posts and read them when I get a chance. You are my first go to for catching up! Lori

It used to be 1 sleeping, 1 sham, 1 small decorative (I have a twin bed, and before anyone asks why?…because it’s just me and that’s all I really need). However I just got a new, quilted cover. It came with 2 shams but on this size bed 3 large pillows just look ridiculous. In the before time, the extras went on a chair at night but now I just crawl in and sigh deeply as it is officially flannel sheet season. Those sheets make me happier than any bed decor.

You obviously don’t have pets sleeping with you….

Definitely. Can’t have them but have had “guest pets” on occasion and it brought back memories. Although even in the days of king size beds they always chose to sleep as close as possible. If I moved, they moved so really what’s the point of a bigger bed!

Great question – only 2 and I use both! What about couches? I live with a bunch of minimalists, but I insist on putting pillows on our 2 couches. And I use them! But everyone else takes them off and puts them on the floor before they sit.

We have one pillow on the couch. My husband Hates couch pillows so it’s a fight I choose not to engage in

Two sleeping Two shams. The shams are at the foot of the bed and don’t disrupt sleeping So they stay there. I do occasionally kick mine off the bed while I’m asleep

Two sleeping pillows, two shams, four decorative. We stack them on the floor at night. No big deal.

I have one extra now, as a just in case, plus a small pillow that I love and sometimes put under my neck. I ditched the show pillows

Besides the pillow for my head, I have two shams and a bolster. Those three are thrown on my desk chair every night, not on the recliner that Sadie thinks is hers.

Doesnt it belong to Sadie?

Yes, the chair has become Sadie’s, but she usually sleeps with me. I had a vacation while Rose was here. Sadie stuck to her and $, leaving me dog-less. Rose flew home yesterday, so I got my doggie bed partner back when $ got up in the middle of the night.

Having the pillows on the desk chair reminds me that it’s already past my bedtime, and I have no business sitting in that chair again until tomorrow.

I’m a minimalist. Only four sleeping pillows in total. Two each. Very boring. 🙂

We have two pillows each. The extra pillow helps while we read in bed. And the extra pillow is pushed overboard before sleeping. So a lot fewer than 15 pillows over here 🙂

It’s gotten that it’s just a mass of pillows

😮 I take it you and your commenters are talking about decorative pillows? As far as I’m aware this trend hasn’t reached the UK yet.

Mulberry silk doesn’t damage the skin like cotton, apparently, great for the complexion so they say! 🙂

Hi !
I have definitely found this to be true ! So helpful in preventing fine lines and wrinkles.
Also a bonus in that it keeps hair silky and frizz-free, thereby cutting down a need for various ‘hair products.’

My daughter swears by her silk pillowcase. Though she’s 19 and everything is perfect then!

I have always wondered what people are supposed to do with all those fancy pillows on the bed when they stage a home! Tassels and embroidery?? No thanks! I have one sleeping pillow, plus some large stuffed animals which are nice when I want to sit up in bed. Those usually end up on the floor by morning regardless of where I put them…

Two for wife, two for me. Mine are both feather pillows. Not sure what she uses, but don’t think they are feather. No staging pillows..once in a while a faceless Amish staging doll..but that’s it. pretty plain Jane.

I’m the pillow queen, unjustifiable fluff on every couch, bed and chair in the house. I set them aside on the stool and floor when I sleep, close at hand so I can grab one in the morning while I enjoy my coffee! There are never too many pillows! 💕C

I have a queen bed just for me 😉 and have: body pillow (named George Clooney beside I snuggle it at night), 2 pillows (use only 1) and 2 shams that double as guest pillows if needed. The sham pillows have a night spot between the bookcase & wall.

We have two pillows for each of us and use both of them interchangeably. I’ve never been one to keep shams or extra pillows on the bed for just those reasons, what to do with them when I want to sleep, plus laundry. Who needs to wash extra pillowcases?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Oddly, when I washed linens yesterday I managed to forget one of the pillow cases

I love the look of all those pillows, but cannot stand actually making the bed, so the few “extra” pillows I have ended up elsewhere on a permanent basis. Otherwise, I have two to sleep on for myself and hubby has one.

My husband likes to sleep with four or five pillows. It’s ridiculous. I used to tease him that he had a mountain or a wall of pillows. I like two. So we have six to eight pillows on our bed and it’s a mess.

I have one pillow. I store it under my head when I am asleep. Julia does the same. She has cushions downstairs but the bedroom is mercifully free of such frippery.

I sleep with two pillows, my wife sleeps on one and Nigel sleeps on her second head pillow, she also elevates her feet for back issues. Oh and she had a Yellow Marshmallow Peep Pillow, even though she is pushing 40 she likes holding that plushie and various stuffed animals when we watch TV.

My question is what do you do when you visit someone who has the pillow fetish? I feel bad putting them on the floor, but what else can you do with them if they don’t have a large guest room with a place to put them?

No decorative pillows for me; at least not at this time. 3 regular pillows. I’ve had decorative pillows before and your question is a good one. Quite frankly decorative pillows look nice, yet annoy me at bedtime…😉

See? Me too! I have one decorative pillow, but really, it’s good for lower back support when reading so I consider that a wash…plus it’s small, so easily fits on top of something

Because we use duvets, there are always two pillowcases extra, so we put two extras on the bed during the day, and then put them on a chair in the bedroom when wee are asleep.

My decorative pillows go on top of the bed in the guest/spare bedroom every night and then they’re put back on the bed when I make it in the morning. It’s a pain but I love the look of a bed with lots of pillows! I still have my summer white duvet and matching pillows on, but woke up to cooler weather this morning, so the blue print flannel duvet set will go on soon!
