LOVED all the photos!! So interesting……things I’ll probably never see……thanks for sharing them. Scanning a barcode instead of getting a menu……WoW!…….not real crazy about that idea……old fashioned I guess…lol.
Lovely. When our youngest child was just a few weeks old we had to take her to Houston for a pediatric cardiologist to assess her immediate needs and decide if she needed immediate surgery or not (she didn’t, thank goodness). While we were awaiting their decision we stumbled onto a Jackson Pollock exhibition at an art museum. We’d never heard of Pollock and I remember our reactions to his work. Neither of us at the time had any understanding of non-representational artwork—or any art at all for that matter. But it stuck with me. Kind of like a burr on my shoe. And I grew to appreciate it.
That’s kind of how my husband feels. Not just about Pollack, and not just about abstract art. On the five arts scale of cultural appreciation he’s a negative 1. Although, he does enjoy theatre. Just not opera.
My husband doesn’t like anything with hidden nuance or that’s a metaphor….I would never take him to a Mamet play….he’s a phantom of the opera type of guy
Someone should have given my mom that backseat driver quote many years ago. I have tried not to be a backseat driver to my kids as they shift in to adulthood.
Need to get to NYC someday. I love botanical gardens and museums. I have been in NY state to see Niagara Falls but I couldn’t convince my husband to put NYC on the list. If we ever make it out of the pandemic, I’ll get one of my kids to make the trip with me!
Wow scanning a bar code instead of reading a menu – how does that work? It was interesting to see so few people (relatively) on the steps of the Met. I’d love to visit N.Y. city one day. I’d especially love to see a few plays on Broadway (or off). And to visit museums, etc. This may be the only way I’ll ever see it, so thanks for letting me have a peep. have a great day and a great week.
To be honest, I have an older android so my daughter or husband with newer phones do it for me….it’s apparently like taking a picture. But if we’re going out to eat I now look at menu ahead of time so I know what I want…and all excellent reasons to come to nyc!
I like to use my canon for photos but often use my hubby’s newer android – mine is ancient as cell phones go. But I am stubborn and will not upgrade as long as it’s still functioning. LOL
I broke down and bought a new desktop a couple of years ago. I find the screen on my phone too small to see properly. Kudos to you for being able to do so. 🙂
Nooo….don’t blog on my cell phone! Could never! However, I do snap pictures on my phone for the blog because it’s actually easier to add photos to WordPress from my phone
Nice to see the weddings, even if they are small, the fact that they are getting married is what is most important. Went to an outdoor pub the other day and they wanted us to scan the QR code, but neither one of us has the app that will read it, the camera function doesn’t work for that, so they gave us physical menus. I agree with your husband on Jackson Pollack, my father was an artist at the same time Pollack was being noticed and he couldn’t stand him either.
Nice to see you getting out and about. Concerning art, Pollock might be brilliant, or not depending on your point of view. But if it looks like two kids and a leaky paint pot could do it, is it worth $140,000,000?
Though…you could go through the whole…can you put a price on art….or….what is art….or…is anything worth that much money? Though I’d love to have enough money to buy Sargents Portrait of Madame X which I adore
There are some beautiful paintings, but there are some appalling daubs there too. The Pollocks are actually quite good compared to some of the stuff on the list.
That’s good – if you understand everything what is the point of going on? I’m pretty sure that after 30 years the main point of my marriage is to keep me guessing. 🙂
Glad to see New York is coming back again. I was worried after I read some articles about the city. It is hard to imagine some of the things I was reading. I hope they are a product of someone’s overactive imagination.
I love flowers too….but I dont know much either… thought it was one of the few I knew about so I got all excited lol. I just have 4 pots now. But the plant in one of them is almost dead….I’m trying to do CPR 😄🙃😄🙃🤭….hope it recovers soon.
so much good going on in this post!

My husband hates pollack while I love him. He was gritting his teeth as I made him go to an exhibit on abstract expressionism…

To be honest, as I looked at the prices of some of those paintings I did begin to wonder about the sanity of the whole world.
I’m a bit of a philistine when it comes to art. I’d be happy with a couple of Vettriano prints.
