As some of you know, about two weeks ago my dog started to not feel well. She passed last Monday night. My family is heartbroken.

I am grateful to have had 13 wonderful years with my dog. She was sweet and wonderful and I will miss her.

As you must surmise, she took ill amongst Corona restrictions. We were lucky enough to find a vet who was able to come to our house to diagnose her.

Last Monday she passed at about 6:30. The place where you can take remains that is open after five pm is located smack dab in the middle of where people were rioting and looting. Be clear I do not mean protests, unless protests include setting cars on fire, throwing bricks through windows and looting things from stores.

We were physically unable to get her remains to this place.

I am grateful to the vet who came to our apartment to retrieve our dog.

The world will only get better if we learn to respect one another and be kind to one another.

  1. LA, thank you for sharing. Having lived and my family being past New Yorkers, I can only watch with emotion and try not to say the words I feel because I hate to lose control and show ugliness. Sorry about your pet. As for the other, I work every day to forgive and distance myself from the ugliness.

I am sure you have wonderful memories of the times you spent with her. She might not be around but she will always be in your heart and in your memories.❀

    1. Thank youπŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—it’s hard! I’m now running through my mind if there were things I should have noticed that would have indicated that she was sick….

      1. Don’t think about it because you might end up beating yourself for not having noticed the signs. Sometimes animals can get sensitive to the simplest of things. We had a kitten here for a week. She was playing around one day and the next day she fell so sick she couldn’t get up. She passed away a day later.
Just think: For 13 years, she had a good home and good people to look after her, love and care for her. πŸ™‚β€

  3. I am so sorry about your precious dog..and so sorry that both the virus and the violence had such an awful impact on the entire situation. Thank God you found such a good hearted vet to help you in both moments of great need. There are more like him/her in the world LA, there really are..it just doesn’t seem like it because they do it without self-documenting their good deeds for facebook postings and praise.

  4. I am so very sorry about the loss of your beloved pet. Pope Francis said pets go to heaven, too. I like to picture your dog frolicking up there, being spoiled by all the saints and angels. Take care of yourselves during this rough time.

  5. I am so sorry to hear about your pup’s passing. It is heartbreaking under ‘normal’ circumstances, let alone under riots, the virus and all the uncertainty. I’m sending you big hugs LA – to you and to your family. ❀️

  6. So very sorry for your loss. I just can’t imagine losing a pet during the time of all this chaos. I’ve loved all of my dogs, and greatly grieved the loss of every one of them. Be kind to yourself, losing a pet is a difficult journey, especially since they are such innocent creatures.

  8. Oh, LA, I’m so sorry for your loss and for it to be compounded by the worst side of human nature during these dark days. There really are lots of examples of the good side human nature out there, but you’re clearly not finding them. So very sorry.

  9. That is such a heartbreak that you couldn’t take your beloved pet yourself due to the criminal element.

Our older dog, who’s been eating less and less suddenly collapsed and died yesterday afternoon. We buried her on the property this morning. We can sympathize with your loss.

  10. I am so very sorry for your loss – our pets really are part of the family and thirteen years is a lot of loving. As I write this my son and his wife have to make arrangements to euthanize their senior citizen chihuahua. They adopted him several years ago and he was very old then and suffering from heart failure. They have loved him for five years and my heart is heavy today as I think of their place without him in it. Losing a pet is so very hard at the best of times – and these are not! I am so sorry you are going through so much!

  11. I’m so very sorry! Dogs hold such a special place in our hearts, and they leave such a big hole when they leave us. The grief is hard enough to bear in normal times, but at a time when you have been dealing with so much else, I can’t imagine how hard it is. Bless that vet who came to your apartment….those are the gestures that mean so much.

  12. I am so sorry for your loss and for the difficult time you had caring for him respectfully during the riots. The vet is certainly to be praised for helping you during what had to be a traumatic time.
