Two years ago I signed up with WordPress!

What have I learned?

  1. If WordPress is going to make a change, it will be two steps forward, one step back. Case in point, the new editor, which I’ve heard Zero people that like it…
  2. I still like writing off the top of my head: I still may think about a post overnight, in my sleep like some sort of weird osmosis thing, but I write the post in one take on my computer in the morning. I don’t know if this is good or bad.
  3. When I started this blog I was focusing solely on aging. As I started to write, I realized that I just see things differently now that I am older. The chronological age doesn’t bother me: it was just strange to see how my mindset changes/changed.
  4. This calendar year I changed up my blog writing a little. Instead of just writing whatever came to my head, I began to think of topics, and then write all week about one central idea. I realized how important comments are to my process and gained much of my insight and thoughts based on what others say. Seeing other peoples perspective has broadened my mind. I like having the ability to reflect and write about that during a week.
  5. Sometimes when I’m thinking about a certain weekly topic, ideas start to come to me from all around. I might hear something on GMA, then I might read a blog with something that oddly correlates, then something might happen in real life that backs it up.
  6. I have met amazing people during my blog journey- that’s been the most fun part of blogging- the connections
  7. I still do not know what a widget is
  8. I am not looking forward to the new editor
  9. I am looking forward to what comes next
  10. This week is a little bit of a compilation- I am going to follow up on some things I’ve been working on/talked about, and there is most probably going to be a guest post from my daughter on Friday

Thanks to all of you who read, listen to and challenge me on a daily basis!!

  2. I like following you because you have a great response from your followers and also because you live in New York City. I have lived there and my parents were born and bred New Yorkers, so I look forward when you talk about the life in New York.

  3. Congrats on two years. You are one of my favorite people to read because you have such interesting topics. I also read most of your commenters too because you are right, the insights others share is terrific. Here’s to many more years!

  4. Took me a while to figure out widgets…lol…If you look at my blog on a laptop (not in reader) and you see a margin on the right that has my instragram feed, blog stats (followers), a search window, a list of recent posts…those are all widgets that I added to my margin. ๐Ÿ™‚ I can take them away or move them or add new ones as I see fit. I’ve contemplated putting the Goodreads widget on but I decided against it because many people read in reader and don’t see the ‘blog set up’ etc.

    Maybe this helps?

  5. Two years … so many years ahead. I think most of us start blogging with a fairly specific theme in mind and then, lo and behold, new ideas pop up and side shoots sprout. And how well thatโ€™s been working for you! Keep on exploring every idea that grabs you. Your readers are listening!

  6. Congratulations! I always find your poststo be thought provoking. Don’t worry about the new block editor….just read a tutorial first. I feel better about it than I did last week when I blogged about my first attempt, as the second went better. I have a link to a basic tutorial if you or anyone else is interested?

  7. I love your posts. I also wonder sometimes if I need to do what you are doing – stick to a theme – but for now, I just ramble on what’s going on and I’ll see where it leads. Thank you for writing!

    1. I started doing themes because I started getting so excited by feedback that I had to expound on ideas. I always hear so much I never thought of!!

  8. Oh god I am not doing well with the new block editor – I keep having to hassle the chat people – whereโ€™s the word count? How do I link it with twitter now? WHY WONโ€™T THE PICTURE STAY IN THE CENTRE! Damn. I hate change ๐Ÿคฏ I also hate how much I sound like my mother

  9. I just had my 2 year anniversary, too. CongratZ!
I think you hit the nail right on the head – we are growing and developing when it comes to blogging. It’s a good thing.
And I agree with your dislike of the new editor. Why?????
